TV Box MECOOL KM8 is the first box that came to my hand with the new version of Android 8.0, so it is possible to expect some problems with the lack of adjustment of some applications. However, my personal experience was very positive with this TV Box and, thanks to its friendly price, it could be for many people the entry point to the world of TV Boxes. Note the presence of the new Android 8.0.

Review of MECOOL KM8 – Packaging
The moment we open the box, we can see the packaging. As you can see in the lying photos, there is nothing extra. So the manual, the power adapter, the HDMI cable, the controller, the television box and below it hide the antenna.
The plastic itself, in which everything is embedded is somewhat rigid, personally I struggled for some time with the controller, which was not completely removed from the box.
Review of MECOOL KM8 – Design
MECOOL KM8 is enclosed in a small compact plastic box, with the dimensions that can be read in the previous specifications.
On the front panel we can see Dolby Audio, microphone and power button. In addition, there is an IR diode for remote control.
On the left side there is a slot for Micro-SD card and two USB ports.
The audio output, Ethernet, HDMI and the power supply are on the back.
The lower cover has an identification plate, air vents and four rubber feet.
Review of MECOOL KM8 – Start-up
After connecting the necessary cables, simply turn on the TV Box by pressing the power button, which will put it in sleep mode, or turn it off by pressing the button on the remote control.
After a brief start, when you have to connect the remote control, then the updates are checked, the Android TV start screen starts.
The interface is in the form of mosaics with horizontal scrolling in two parts: selected applications where you can add your favorite programs and menus of all installed applications.
Below is a tab to run the configuration and WiFi menu. There is also a standard Android configuration menu that moves slightly to the right.
In the menu, you can configure the basic settings of the system: language, wireless network, audio settings, etc. The resolution itself can be selected up to 4k, but note that the interface will still be displayed in 720p. Therefore, 4k will only be valid for watching movies.
Review of MECOOL KM8 – Hardware, Performance, Video
MECOOL KM8 TV is equipped with the popular Amlogic S905X chipset, four Cortex-A53 cores up to 1.5 GHz. The graphics are then ARM Mali-450 MP2, which complements 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of ROM.Ethernet 10/100 .
The antutu reference point, which is not compatible with Android TV and its installation is somewhat more complicated (see chapter Software), measures 27,679 points, which is quite sufficient for the operation and moves in the typical values of this processor.
The speed of the WiFi transmission is enough to show any online content, which will be received by those who install the popular KODI with their favorite CZ / SK add-ons. However, if you prefer higher quality online content, the recommendation is, of course, a wired Internet connection, when I reached approximately 95 Mbps.
Also, the temperature of the box was normal, there was no feeling of the box overheating. In terms of performance, the Mali-450MP2 graphics processor integrated into the SoC Amlogic S905X allows you to play almost any video format file.
It also supports video up to 4k at 60 frames per second, encoded with h.265 codec. HDR and 10-bit support is also available.
YouTube allows you to watch 4K videos (up to 2160p) by default.
The movies are reproduced without problems, without problems with the image or sound.
Review of MECOOL KM8 – Software
The menu of the application is available, as we have already written, on the desktop in the form of large mosaics and the minimum necessary programs are installed from the beginning.
A multimedia center for video, audio and photo playback, Google Play, YouTube and some others are the ones you can find here. Of course, everything you miss, like Kodi, can be installed with the presence of Google Play.
Of course, many of the programs you're used to are incompatible with Android TV, so it looks like you can forget your Chrome browser. Of course, there is always a way, a little more complicated. I will describe it here. First you need to install ES File Explorer in the TV box. Then download the apk applications on the PC (in my case they were Chrome and Antutu) and load these apk packages into Google Drive. Then, open ES File Explorer on the TV Box and connect to Google Drive via the Network tab. Voila, the installation files are available and you can install them happily.
It is also worth mentioning the possibility of voice control, for example, saying "What time does it do?", And the box spits it out in Czech and also shows it. It was more complicated to have a "Kodi Start", but the fourth one did, but it is possible that I just laughed. Anyway, the toy is interesting, the question is how much fun it has. 🙂
